Data-Collection Instruments
With a sample size of n=6481, the research collected data using laboratory instruments. The selected laboratory instruments were respiratory culture or nonculture test, Mycoplasma pneumonia IgM antibody test, and the Legionella pneumonia antigens. Through these tests, the research was able to conduct at least one blood culture (n=5039) and at least 1 respiratory culture (n=2095) (Vaughn et al., 2019). The researcher exposed some patients to the Mycoplasma pneumonia IgM antibody test to assess the presence of the bacterial pathogen. Ideally, the research included academic and non-academic hospitals of varying sizes thus increasing its external validity. More so, with patient data extracted by a trained abstractor it was possible to assess appropriateness and confounders, thus increasing research internal validity. The research further assessed discharge prescribing and contacted about 60% of its patients after discharge, making it possible to assess and identify some outcomes not initially captured in research’s observational study. These moves by researcher increased accuracy of test measures. Research reliability was established through use of same laboratory tests on the same sample which in return increased research papers accuracy. As a biological research, the data collection instruments are ideal and entire research is done correctly.
Conclusions
The research concludes that most patients diagnosed and hospitalized with pneumonia are exposed to antibiotics longer than expected. As a result, most patients reported adverse events immediately after discharge from ...
