a.   This will be an individual assignment. Each student will choose a research article published within the last 5 years from any leading peer reviewed nursing journal, related to Infants and Children, and have it approved by the professor. The student is required to write a Critical Analysis of the faculty approved research article and attach it to the scholarly paper. b.   Refer to a sample template research paper (provided)

c.   When writing the critical analysis of a peer reviewed paper, keep in mind that Faculty are looking for two critical elements:

a)      Evidence that the student understands the article and issues presented.

b)      Develop and offer your own insightful thoughts.

c)      In order to demonstrate an understanding of the article, it is imperative that student’s use their own words/language rather than regurgitating that of others. Simply put, if your paper includes a great deal of direct quoting or simple paraphrasing of sentences from the article (as opposed to summarizing ideas/information in your own words), this does not convey understanding of the content. Therefore, direct quotes and paraphrasing of specific sentences or portions of text from the article should be used only when necessary (e.g., in situations where the intended meaning of the text might be altered or lost if paraphrased or where paraphrasing is not possible).

d.   The paper will be a maximum of 4 typed, double-spaced pages in length excluding the cover and reference page; APA 7th Ed format. Papers cannot be hand-written. You must use a minimum of 12-point font either on Arial or Times New Roman format.

e.   The paper should include a reflection on how you can integrate the research findings recommendations for providing care to one patient you cared in this pediatric simulated clinical

Introduction
The research by Noia et al. (2021) was a pilot study aimed at establishing whether a new intervention involving farm-to- Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) program would increase vegetable consumption among low-income families. The WIC program focuses on increasing vegetable intake among pregnant and post-partum mothers as well as children from low-income families. The outcome of the pilot study would determine whether large-scale research can be done successfully.
This research is attempting to show the efficacy and feasibility of a new intervention. As the authors indicate, there are very few farm-to-WIC interventions, which makes it difficult to determine whether the intervention would yield the expected results. By using a pilot study, the research is trying to test whether the intervention can be successful when applied on a large scale to help the population of interest increases its vegetable uptake. To determine whether the new intervention can be effective, the researchers examine and compare vegetable consumption between the control and the intervention group. They also examine the rate of voucher redemption among low-income families.
It makes sense that the researchers would study the question in such a manner. First, the grounds for using a pilot study are clear; very few similar interventions have been done in the past. So, it makes sense to want to first establish whether the intervention is feasible before conducting a large-scale study. Second, using vegetable intake and voucher redemption as the predictor variables makes sense because an increase in both translates to an increase in overall vegetable consumption.
Methods
The research employed a quantitative research method. Specifically, the researchers utilized a randomized control trial (RCT) to establish the difference in vegetable consumption between participants who received the intervention and those who did not. The intervention included recipes, trips to a nearby farmers market, handouts outlining strategies for increased vegetable intake, and coaching on vegetable intake, provided via telephone. There was a focus on numerical values in terms of the self-reported vegetable intake and the number of voucher renewals as recorded by the WIC program.
The researchers used dermal carotenoids to measure vegetable intake. High levels of carotenoids on the skin reflect high vegetable intake. In addition, the researchers used self-report from participants to determine vegetable intake. They also measured voucher redemption during the period of study based on the data provided by WIC. Food security was also measured using a Household Food Security item. Since the research wanted to establish whether the intervention was promising in terms of increased voucher redemption and vegetable intake in low-income families, these measurements were appropriate. They directly relate to the question that the researchers were asking.
