Article Critique Instructions:

Students will prepare six comment-and-critique papers on the reading assignments and bring papers to class for discussion. Papers should be 2-3 double spaced pages and should analyze critically one major issue in a reading assignment, one you find thought-provoking or problematical. Possible approaches:
1) Develop a logical and/or empirical critique of the arguments you analyze (e.g., Does the evidence support the arguments?)
2) Compare material in readings with other theory/research material presented in seminar sessions;
3) Compare and contrast material in one reading assignment with that in another; or

Multicultural education has a unique history, development, dimensions, and practice in contemporary society. Banks’ logic in explaining the goals and scope of the subject matter is informative, especially to individuals interested in implementing multicultural education in their systems. Similarly, in her book, "Twice as Less," Wilson Orr gives a succinct opinion on black students' educational performance in mathematics and science since she is a teacher and articulates the data collected from her colleagues and her classroom sessions (Orr, 1997). Notably, learners globally are likely to miss out on everything available due to the resistance to the language used in schools.
Language continues to hold a strong position in determining conceptual thinking regarding education. Wilson Orr emphasizes the value of language despite her steadfast refusal to participate in the discussion of the connection underlying language and the human mind. Her findings imply that language can influence how one perceives quantitative relationships; in particular, how a BEV speaker interprets particular Standard English formulations of quantitative relationships can influence how they perceive such relationships. (Orr, 1997). She shares a position with Banks on the importance of clearly describing and conceptualizing dimensions of multicultural education, such as language. His goals of implementing a multicultural education tally with most researchers and scholars who list some of them. Advocating for better learning opportunities, especially for those black individuals considered less intelligent than white due to their first language.
Moreover, scholars advocate for multicultural education since they aim that the beneficiaries will lead debates and discussions on topics such as educational, social equity, and climate, among other vital issues. The five dimensions mentioned in his excerpt include race, ethnicity, class, gender, and exceptionality (Gholson & Wilkes, 2017). Despite his review focusing on racial and ethnic groups only, I looked forward to reading how he links exceptionality as a dimension to multicultural education. Notably, a reader can extensively grasp the goals and scopes of multicultural education that Banks talks about.
