Diversity Cases and Business Decision-Making

Article Critique Instructions:

Find a scientific study of your interest and contrast it with how the media has translated the findings from researchers. Discuss critically if they have oversimplified a piece of the problem or a finding(s). Praise them for their good practice, which elements of the research were made much more accessible for the general population? Discuss which are the merits of having a third party producing a commentary/digested piece of original formal research. Discuss what are the dangers of business managers relying mainly on secondary and tertiary sources to obtain data and make decisions. Do you have a personal instance in which you, your boss, or your team were led to misconstrue the findings or data presented in a commentary/digested tertiary source report?
500 to 700 words
Be sure to include an opening paragraph -five to six lines- that summarizes the entire paper. This is not an intro that describes what the paper is about, rather this is a full summary of the paper. Think of this, if my paper landed in the hands of busy executives, would they have a full understanding of what my analysis is, as well as my recommendations and why by just reading the opening paragraph?
Do not answer the paper in a Q&A format style. Rather use sections and sub-headings.
Strengthen your storytelling by using numbers and charts.
Be sure to include at LEAST two scholarly academic sources. e.g. journal articles or books.

Sources and Business Decision Making
While the media offers a source of simplified information about research data, they provide an opportunity for a business executive to determine whether a given study can be used to inform business practices. The recommendations of a research study conducted by Georgeac and Rattan (2022) on backfiring diversity were effectively captured in an article published on Forbes by Elsesser (2022). After reading Elsesser's (2022) article, one can effectively assess if they should read Georgeac and Rattan (2022) in its entirety and use it to inform business decision-making. Nonetheless, one should be wary of the dangers of relying on secondary sources for decision-making. The likelihood of misconstruing the data in the primary source due to a commentary in the tertiary source is high.
In a scientific study, Georgeac and Rattan (2022) examined the effectiveness of diversity cases as applied by companies to attract a diverse workforce. The researchers found that the use of diversity cases undermines the extent to which the minority experienced a sense of belonging within a given organization. Consequently, Georgeac and Rattan (2022) conclude that organizational diversity cases may hamper the achievement of diversity goals in an organization. In a Forbes report covering the scientific study, Elsesser (2022) points out that the study provides evidence that diversity initiatives may backfire. The focus of the media article is that a tendency to link diversity with corporate profits ends up turning off the minorities that an organization is keen to attract.
Notably, the media article makes the scientific study results more accessible to the public. That is, Elsesser (2022) simplifies the finding, as they would be applied to make decisions on investment toward diversity initiatives. From the media article, it is easy for one to understand that the use of diversity cases elicit fear among the diverse group that they would experience stereotype while working for an organization and that the organization considers them interchangeable. Comparatively, such information would not be easily discernible from reading the scientific study (Freeman & Lynd-Balta, 2010). In such a way, media articles ease the c...
