Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) is a critical component of public health. This aspect seeks to ensure that buildings meet the standard of desirable quality to promote optimum mental and physical wellness of individuals living in indoor environments. Mostly, residential buildings remain protected under IEQ since it is where people spend most of their time. A good reference was during the lockdown of the COVID-19 pandemic when people remained in their houses. Therefore, essential qualities such as overall satisfaction, air quality, thermal, daylight, and acoustic comfort become fundamental during scheming and appraising IEQ. In addition, previous studies explain how gender, adaptability, age groups, time spent on the buildings, and the type of tenancy contribute to the overall satisfaction of IEQ.
Gender as a factor of IEQ satisfaction is essential due to the need to respect individuals’ preferences. Males seem more comfortable and satisfied with their environs than females since light, acoustic and thermal comfort was okay for them, according to the findings by (Psomas et al., 2022). On the other hand, females complained about comfortability since IEQ did not meet their expectations. Naturally, women and men have different preferences hence the lack of similarity in their choices.
Leaning that women are more concerned with daylight than men was an insightful concept raised by the article. Psomas et al. (2022) indicate that a statistical difference emerged in the comparison of daylight between males and females.
