Annotated Bibliography Instructions:

The annotated bibliography is about a research paper that you wrote for me and the title is "Chinatown in NYC." Two of the sources that you use is
"Douthat, Rose. "The asian-american Age." The New York Times (2018): Np.
Eligon, John. "They Left China to Chase the American Dream. Now They're Fighting Affirmative Action." the New York Times (2018): Np.
And I will upload the reasearch paper.
Annotated bibliography
More than “just” listing resources you have used for a research project or paper, a bibliography serves as a map of the scholarship with which your paper is in conversation with. In this step, you will start the conversation.
To start this assignment, generate 2-3 keywords that you think describes what you want to explore. For example, picking up on a theme that I provided around religious institutions, my keywords may be “immigrant children” or “second generation” + religion,” and if I was looking at a Hindu temple “Hinduism” + “United States.” Using these keywords you will do a search on JSTOR (one of the databases you have access to through the BMCC Library) and find scholarly articles for your paper. Please do not just choose the first article that pops up – do some work and read through the abstracts and descriptions to see what may be the most useful for you. Additionally, make sure the sources are current. They must be from 2000 or after. If you find a source that is earlier that you think will work, you must clear it with me.
Your annotated bibliography will consist of three articles from academic journals or books.
Each entry will consist of:
Bibliographic citation using MLA style. Three-four sentences summarizing the content of the article. One to two sentences stating why this source will be helpful in your paper. Do not neglect why you think the essay will be useful to you – this is the conversation part!
Sample Annotated Bibliography Entry
Here is a sample entry. You will notice that I start with a general description of the topic and then move to the author's argument. Following, I say a bit about how the information was gathered before ending with how this will be helpful in my project.
The bibliographic format I used is for an article in an edited book. Make sure you use the correct format for the type of article you are using (journal article, article from an edited volume [one book in which different chapters are written by different authors], single author book, etc]. A reference of citation formats is available in section below.
Warikoo, Natasha. "Cosmopolitan Ethnicity: Second Generation Indo-Caribbean Identities." Becoming New Yorkers: Ethnographies of the New Second Generation, edited by P Kasinitz, J Mollenkopf and M Waters. Russell Sage Foundation, 2009, pp. 361-91.
This article discusses ethnic self identification amongst Indo-Caribbean second generation in New York City. The author claims that these youth have a cosmopolitan ethnicity, an ethnic identity that contains many different cultural forms from a diversity of communities. The youth she examined identify as West Indian, East Indian and also with African American culture. The research was carried out in a high school. The author also looked at the consumption patterns and friendship networks. This article will be helpful for my project because it discusses identity in Richmond Hill.

Annotated Bibliography
“Douthat, Rose. "The Asian-American Age." The New York Times (2018): Np”
The author describes the “Asian-American” age. The author notes that the fact that the Asian-American plaintiffs decided to sue Harvard University for discrimination against them is related to the polarization that has bedeviled the Trump administration. However, the author points out that Asian Americans have been known to shift their allegiance because, during the Regan administration, they leaned more towards the Republican party. They shifted towards the Democratic Party during the Clinton era and had remained so ever since. However, the author points out that there is an increasing number in the Asian community within the U.S and in the future, it is more likely that they will change their patterns of support. The author notes that some Asian Americans, especially those with the Chinese origin, have become wealthier and might find it hard to associate themselves with the minorities in the future. In this regard, they might switch to take more conservative views and support the Republican Party.
The author further points out that even though the Trump administration has focused on building a wall to prevent migration of the Hispanics. However, the major concern should be on the migration of the Asians because, over the last year years, their population in the U.S has been increasing. This research was carried out in response to the suit of the Asian-Americans issued against Harvard University. The author focused on the changing dynamics in the Asian communities within the U.S. The article will be important for my project because it discusses the Asian...
