YOUR TOPIC
When researching your topic look at it from three perspectives: How does it affect the individuals involved, or how does it affect the individual in general? How does the issue affect society on a national and/or global level? Does it impact what it means to be human? These perspectives will help you to answer the “so what” or “why should I care” question, making your research relevant for the reader. Answering this also serves as the foundation for your thesis statement. Try to find at least one primary source. This is often where newspaper articles can come in again, because they often have stories about individuals who are affected by the topic. Including such anecdotes helps you to appeal to your readers’ emotions.
Find no fewer than a total of SIX SOURCES, but more if you please, as indicated below:
Two to three peer-reviewed Academic Journals. The others can be non-peer reviewed.
One book.
The rest of your sources can be of your choosing, but they need to be reputable and/or scholarly. Try to find a primary source.
2) Print out all of your articles. Check out the book. Read/Skim them. Circle the words you need to look up. Look them up.
THE ANNOTATION
3) On a separate sheet of paper for each article:
a) Cite each source in MLA style. See OWL Purdue site.
b) Annotate each source. Your annotation should be in paragraph format and include:
1) A brief summary of the source, including the source’s thesis, key points, and the most significant detail or evidence supporting those points. If someone asked what this article/book was about, what would you say? What is the purpose of the book or article? What topics are covered? What are the main arguments? Focus on the thesis statement and topic sentences from your article to summarize important points.
2) Evaluate the source. Is it secondary or primary? Does it make a strong argument? Is it logical? Does the author jump to conclusions? Is the data sufficient? (In other words are the inferences believable and based on solid facts?) Should a wider range of subjects have been tested? Is it biased? Is it useful compared to other sources? Is the journal reputable (i.e. reviewed by peers, etc.).
3) Relate the article to your research/thesis. Does it contradict you? Is it easily refutable and is it, therefore, helpful or harmful to your essay? Can you use it in your essay and how? Does it offer statistics valuable to your research? Has it changed how you think about your topic?

SEXISM IN THE WORKPLACE
Mosier, A. E. (2019). The effects of ambient benevolent sexism and its implications in the workplace.
Benevolent sexism is a gender evaluation that can be mistaken for being positive but instead has a detrimental effect on one gender. The acts on this type of sexism are mistaken for being positive in that they provide an umbrella, which makes it appear as if they are helping the affected gender thrive, but in a real sense, they are changing it negatively. Mosier, in the book, “The effects of ambient benevolent sexism and its implications in the workplace,” published in 2019, did a study to figure out the presence and effects of benevolent sexism on women in the workplace. The study sought to understand how women felt and reacted to benevolent sexism.
The objectives of the study, which facilitated the writing of the book, sought to understand how women related the outcomes seen and the sexism conditions. In the book, Mosier stated that he realized that the research showed that there were no direct effects of outcome variables set/discovered to sexism conditions at the workplace. The responses are given also showed that women were not significantly affected by benevolent sexism since they could not figure out its relationship with the outcomes. Mosier argued that relating the results to benevolent sexism would only affect the women more.
The book can be used as a secondary source since the arguments are not based on first-hand information but from an analysis of data from different respondents. I find the arguments logical in the sense that most people, given the social settings and nature settings, are not able to relate benevolent sexism to some of the things they go through. People even appreciate it to some extent. Comparing it to some outcomes will only affect women more than before connecting it. The argument relates to my research where women are subject to sexism at the workplace, but sometimes they don’t realize. Yes, it is negative, but their lack of knowledge makes the effects less detrimental.
Thomas, K. R. (2017). Understanding Women's Experiences of Sexism in the Modern Workplace (Doctoral dissertation, The George Washington University).
Thomas made the publication as a Doctoral dissertation for George Washington University. The research sought to find mechanisms through which overt and subtle sexism affects women’s careers negatively and cause them detrimental psychological effects. Overt sexism is a form of sexism whereby there is a flagrant display of attitudes of dislike towards the opposite gender. Subtle sexism is a form of sexism which constitutes biased behaviors and treatments based on gender differences.
The argument for the research outlines the carious impacts of sexism in the workplace on women. He analyzed how it has limited women’s careers while they are looked at from a sexists’ eye. The source can be categorized as a secondary source since the arguments by Thomas are based on c...
