Letter From the Future About Technological Advancements

Term Paper Instructions:

Imagine yourself in the year 2051. Send a message to yourself in the year 2021. Though other miracle technologies have not been invented, it is now possible (in 2051) to send packets of data back in time! However, the window for sending your data file back in time is limited, so this opportunity to send useful information to your younger self will only come once. Don’t waste it. Make sure your descriptions are detailed. Where are you living? What do you do for work and for fun? What is daily life like? How have the problems we have discussed in the course been handled? Have they been solved? Has your society adapted? Did you play a role in solving some of those problems? Are there things that you or your society did or didn’t do in the 30 years between 2021 and 2051 that you wish you had done differently? Be specific. Don’t just tell your younger self how it turned out in 2051, tell him/her/them the process by which things changed. Did you manage to transition your economy to 100% carbon-emissions free energy? How did you do it? How did life change to enable this transition? How did your city or town change? How did you deal with sea level rise, high-power storms, wildfires, flooding, heat waves, refugees? How did your society deal with racial and economic injustice and unequal access to things like safe and healthy housing, green space, clean air and water that so plagued your society in 2021.
Of course, such a message from the future will undoubtably be shared with others living in 2021, so you will want to be sure that you are believed. You can’t just pretend that a miracle technology solved everything. It’s only 30 years ago, after all, and they actually knew everything they needed to know to solve their problems. So, you should refer to information that they had available back in the plague year of 2021. If you refer to anything that wasn’t common knowledge back then, you should make a reference to a source they would have been able to find back then. It will be especially persuasive to them if you cite literature that was published after undergoing peer review (since you may remember the scourge of disinformation and misinformation that nearly overwhelmed them), but sources from high-quality news organizations, and other authoritative outlets from that time are also fine. To make it easier for people to connect your statements to sources, you should use APA or MLA formatting for citations. For written documents, this includes in-text citations and a list of references. For videos and presentations a list of citations must appear at the end. Citations will not count against word count (written) or time limits (video or presentation).

Letter from the Future
I am writing this from Texas, and the year is 2051. Several changes have happened since 2021, some gradual and some abrupt. Some changes have brought about positive changes, while others have been learning points for the human race. I am sending this message through a mobile phone, much smaller in size than what we had thirty years ago. Several technological advancements have occurred, and most things are automated now.
I remember vividly how the Corona Virus disease (COVID-19) plagued the world in the year 2020 and 2021, with subsequent less severe waves of the disease in the following years. Well, I am happy to report that we eventually overcame the pandemic, which is now a thing of the past. The pandemic taught us lessons and changed our lives. Inflation continued to rise worldwide, and people developed coping mechanisms by venturing into new practices. I was a high school teacher but left the profession to start farming in Texas. Many people ventured into farming as the demand for food increased over the years. In addition to the change in professions, circumstances forced us to be self-reliant hence the need to learn new skills to survive.
The climatic conditions have recently improved. The progress is partly due to implementing strategies discussed during the climate change meetings, such as the COP conferences. As you already know, by 2021, the world was experiencing the effects of global warmings, such as rising sea levels, higher temperatures, extreme droughts, wildfires, and storms (Boehm). Things got worse in the next three years, with people experiencing less rainfall, more drought, poverty, and displacement. In 2022, deaths due to hunger, especially in developing countries, increased, and food became more expensive worldwide.
In addition to the negative environmental effects, fossil fuels have become more expensive and unreliable. The world experienced inflation and economic recessions, which, to some extent, were influenced by the dynamics surrounding fossil fuel production. The events compelled people to seek alternatives, and the world began shifting from relying on coal and petroleum products to more sustainable energy sources (Rahman et al. 374). Although not everyone embraced the change, many people bought into the idea. The government subsidized the cost of sustainable energy sources, making them cheaper and available for people to adopt. Currently, many households use solar power, wind energy, and power storage batteries that have reduced carbon emissions to the environment.
Electric cars are now more common compared to thirty years ago. They became more affordable over the years and more economical to operate. Electric vehicles are also used for power storage to charge other devices when the need arises (Horn et al. 100). Thirty-five years ago, a study revealed that a huge percentage of the total energy consumed in America went to domestic use, and people relied on power for cooling and heating houses (Rahman et al. 375). Great development has occurred since then, with the government giving directives for the insulation of buildings. Insulated buildings keep indoor spaces cool during summer and warm during ...
