Developing a Feasibility Study

Term Paper Instructions:
Developing a Feasibility Study Situation You have been named to prepare a feasibility study in your company's technology interest. The computers your supervisor originally ordered when the company formed were refurbished and slow; they'll work for a short period of time, but your organization will need 50 new PCs delivered within 60 days. Your accountant informed your supervisor that she was able to free up a $200,000 technology budget to purchase new computers for your 50 employees. Your office is already networked, featuring T1 connections for each of these computers, a number of networked printers, and a central server for data storage. Your supervisor has asked you to create a feasibility study to efficiently spend this money. You'll need to compare three different computer manufacturers and give your recommendation on the best setup. You'll also need to buy specific software for this setup. Objective Prepare a feasibility study comparing three different computer manufacturers for the most efficient setup. This includes determining the best features – even if they aren't the cheapest. Refer to your text to help with layout of the study. Follow the attached hardware and software guidelines. Minimum Hardware Guidelines - 17 inch Flat Panel Monitor - Intel Core i7 Processor - 6 GB RAM - DVD-RW± Drive - 1 TB Hard Disk Drive Software Guidelines* - Microsoft Office, including: o Word o Excel o Outlook o Access - Adobe Photoshop - Any Anti-Virus Software * All software packages must contain licenses for at least 50 users. Delivery Worth: 200 Points Due: Friday, March 2, by 11:59, Firm *** Please be aware that absolutely no late submissions will be graded. *** Use all of the following elements (in order of appearance of the finished project): Points Page 5 A Cover Page (page 520) 10 An Abstract (page 521) 5 A Table of Contents (page 522) 10 An Executive Summary (page 523) 10 An Introduction (page 524) 5 A Schedule/Timeline for Implementation (page 450) 5 Your Qualifications and Experience (page 450) 10 A Budget estimating the division of this fund (chart and explanation) (page 450) 15 Your Research Methods (page 525-526) 30 Your Results (page 527-531) 10 Your Conclusions (page 532) 10 Your Recommendation (page 532) 10 Your References (page 533) 10 Appendix A – set aside a portion of the budget for setup costs - have a firm set up the computers, or - determine labor hours for employees to install their own systems 15 Appendix B - account for any left over funds and recommend spending it on technology, or - account for over-budget costs and suggest ways to re-coup the losses Include the following features: 5 5 Graphics (one of each computer in comparison, two software screenshots or logos) 20 2 Tables - Compare six (6) different relevant features for each of the three computers, including price - Compare two (2) software vendors' prices for each piece of software 5 Numbered Pages 5 Consistent fonts and sizes throughout document Research and locate the hardware and software you will use as a basis for comparison. You may use amazon.com or eBay.com to locate software packages at a discount price – be sure to document your vendor. Additionally, if you do find a deal on a software package, but it includes only one license, simply multiply the amount by 50. For example: Adobe PhotoShop CS retails new on amazon.com for $609.99. A seller on the site is offering the same software for $279.99. This vendor only offers one license/package. You may simply multiply $279.99 x 50 to equal $13,999.50 vs. $609.99 x 50 equaling $30,499.50. Your research could potentially save your company tens of thousands of dollars. Shop smartly. 1.0 AFEASIBILITY REPORT FOR CHOSING A SUPPLIER OF COMPUTERS
1.1 Introduction
Our company has seen or been compelled to purchase new computers after the existing computers started slowing down in terms of speed and dependability. The old computers were bought when our company was established. The computers were refurbished. This explains the slow nature of the computers. Before I proceed further, I will explain briefly what I mean by the term refurbished computers.
Refurbished refers to old or used computers which have been restored to look new or the computer devices which have been taken to the factory to fix some flaws.
In this feasibility study I am going to highlight three companies that are leading in the business of manufacturing and distributing computers. From these three companies I will carefully choose the most price friendly desktops of which our company makes a decision of buying. In addition to evaluating the computers to be bought, I will highlight the prices and capabilities of the accompanying software. At this point, I have to point out that even if the prices are very cheap if the computers do not possess all the desired features, we will be forced to take an option of an expensive one in an effort to boost p...
