Scientific Theme of Teleportation
Over the years the film industry and literary works have been instrumental and on the forefront of producing entertaining materials that also harbors messages and themes for members in society. Movie producers and novelists have been continuously improving their skills in order to attract a large audience and readers and to get positive review. With funding a major predicament, producers particularly have to source for exceptional ideas and themes to their films to lure investors with “deep and heavy” pockets. While society has conventionally been thrilled by action and drama films because they depict their everyday lives, the genre of science fiction films (sci-fi) and novels have gained significant traction. Sci-fi’s have been identified as speculative fictions that thrive on not only imaginative but also speculative concepts. They majorly relate to aspects such as time travel, extraterrestrial life, and advance science and technology among others. Sci-fi’s also tend to explore the potential consequences of scientific and technological innovations in society in the overall existence of mankind. Several sci-fi films and novels have been produced and written respectively that have succeeded to thrill and excite audiences worldwide in equal measure. One primary theme that is evident in science fictions is the discovery of teleportation or otherwise known as time travel. Teleportation or the idea that individuals can go back/ahead in time has been a central theme that scientists have experimented for several years and with films such as the Anti Matter depicting the same, it is sufficient to conclude that they must have made a breath through.
Teleportation
Scientists play crucial roles in society. They are continuously involved in consultative efforts to identify ways that would improve certain aspects in society and ensure that individuals live comfortably. Scientists are predominantly very curious and tend to question why some aspects and things are the way they are. For many years, scientists have been experimenting on time travel also known as teleportation. Teleportation is the transfer of matter or energy across destinations without traversing the physical space between them. Scientists believe that through teleportation, it is possible for an individuals to go back years into their past. For instance, time travel can allow a person to relieve their teenage years. Similarly, from a scientific perspective, teleportation should also allow an individual to view how their future will unfold. As such, time travel can essentially be used by psychiatrists to help individuals who are going through some cases of trauma to identify the circumstances that led to their tribulations. Through envisioning their future, an individual also gets the opportunity to plan accordingly and make changes to their lives. The concept of teleportation is accredited to American writer Charles Fort who first used the term in 1931 to identify not only the strange disappearance but also the appearance of anomalies. There is however a suggestion that teleportation may have been documented as way back as the 19th century.
Despite the continued scientific exploration with teleportation, there has been no breakthrough or implementation in the real world. As such, teleportation remains a central theme in science fiction films and literature worldwide. It is also the core idea in the following science fiction which centers on a group of curious science students experimenting with electrons. The group is led by Mary, a highly talented student whose experiments have allowed her to make electrons disappear. An electron is basically a small particle that has mass and electrical charge. While Mary achieved success in making electrons disappear, she didn’t know where they were going to and as such, she focused all her initiatives in that regard. As is the case with all scientists, Mary was also curious and wanted to examine why some aspects are the way they are. Consequently, Mary and the group then decide to take matters a notch higher and to identify the destination of the disappearing molecules by using a whole molecule which basically comprises of multiple atoms. For instance, a molecule of water is said to include two atoms of hydrogen (H) and one atom of oxygen (O).
Mary and the group’s quest in unravelling the secrets of teleportation forced them to contract the services of fellow student and hacker called Liv. The initiative would see the group hack into all the school computers to get more computation power for their experiment. Their efforts eventually paid off as the group of curious science students managed to make larger objects such as marbles disappear. It was a significant step from what Mary did initially with electrons. The success fueled their drive even further and they embarked on setting a destination for the disappearing objects. For instance, using a Rubik’s cube, they were able to make it disappear from its start location and appear at a stipulated end destination. The group succeeded to discover the secrets of time travel through a wormhole. Wormholes usually act as tunnels that connect the start point and end destination during time travel. Through the wormhole, the group mMaryged to get the entire cube to move across destinations instantly or faster than the speed of light.
After achieving success in teleporting non-living things, the group shifted its focus on living objects. It initially sent plants through the wormhole, and then caterpillars and which all moved to and fro with relative ease. The curious students also teleported a cat and on checking its cellular mutation or molecular decay established that its DNA and RNA are identical before and after the time travel. Scientists indicate that for time travel to be successful there should not be any distortion in the object’s cellular mutation. For instance, an individual who is put through the wormhole with one limb should come out at the end destination with the same deformity.
The continuous explorations and experiments with teleportation enabled the group to develop a small stable wormhole. However, their experiments were small scale and they desired to make their findings known globally. As was initially the case, they conducted th...
