The new technological revolution is gaining momentum, with numerous advancements being made in various fields. Artificial intelligence remains one of the fastest-growing fields of computer science in terms of research and application. The growth and application of artificial intelligence is characterized by, among other things, shared services and cross-border integration, ubiquitous networks, automatic intelligence, and mass innovation. The rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies is an essential part of this era, with numerous game-changing applications in medicine and healthcare, education, business and manufacturing, psychology, among other fields.
Artificial intelligence continues to grow, in research and application, as the world embraces the development of technology. With the current penetration of internet, the emergence of big data, growth of e-commerce, interconnection of data and knowledge with society, cyberspace and physical space, and the global existence of sensors globally, the information platform for the development of artificial intelligence has changed drastically, leading to a new revolutionary artificial intelligence (AI) phase, AI 2.0 (Li, Hou, Yu, Lu and Yang, 2017). The emergence of new technologies also promotes the evolution of the new AI phase. A number of characteristics feature in the new AI phase, including the rise of cross-media reasoning, technology-oriented human-machine hybrid augmented intelligence, internet-based swarm intelligence, and the emergence of data-driven intuitive perception ability for intensive deep learning (Li et al., 2017; Pan, 2016). Thanks to the emergence of a new external environment, various technological advancements continue to arise, thus driving the development of artificial intelligence.
AI 2.0 technology promises new and advanced features that have applications in diverse fields. Such features will include the application of cross-media cognition, learning, and inference, a clear move from the processing of categorical data, including visual, auditory, and written data (Pan, 2016). Additionally, the new AI phase will incorporate the process of combining data-driven and knowledge guidance in autonomous machine learning. AI 2.0 technology will also utilize new forms of hybrid-augmented intelligence as well as in the formation of technologies and platforms to promote crowd-based intelligence built on individual intelligence with the aim of forming a higher level of community intelligence that is based on the internet. Finally, Pan (2016) posits that robotics research will be expanded to more expansively autonomous-intelligent systems that focus on producing intelligent machines and products. Therefore, with the current advances in technology, various stakeholders continue with an objective of pursuing breakthrough in AI to achieve success and improve human lives.
