Early Netherlandish Art

The painting of The Adoration of the Magi,ca. 1465 by Justus of Ghent (Joos van Wassenhove) is one of the works that I chose to analyze. This painting depicts the birth of Jesus Christ and the kings and people who adored his existence. IN the painting, people who belong to different social classes are shown visiting the newly born child. It shows that neither wealth nor race could hinder one’s appreciation for the messiah. Kings and commoners alike were depicted to be welcome in giving their gifts and having a glimpse of the newly born holy figure. The people who belong to the higher classes can be seen wearing colourful robes but they are not showing any kind of oppression towards other people. All are equal in the eyes of God. The Ghent Altar Piece is one of the largest and most complex 15th-century polyptych altarpiece. It can be see displayed in in St Bavo's Cathedral, Ghent, Belgium. It was created during the mid-1420s and completed before 1432. The painting is attributed to the Early Netherlandish painters and brothers Hubert and Jan van Eyck.
