What does the evidence say about this group and their teaching needs (application of evidence-based practice- cite research APA 7th edition)- For example – older diabetics learn best by… or teens are most responsive to learning by having someone close to their age talk to them about their experience (have an article to site for this). Or any other justification for your teaching plan.
B. Assessment of readiness (There may be possible constraints in assessing this area due to limited group availability or the setting).
i. Readiness- of the population – depending on what they are teaching – For example diabetics more ready than those just getting a screening.
ii. Motivation- Age of client’s factors in. Prevention is not motivation, a recent MI (heart attack) is motivation. Example: Motivation was definitely one of several very important behavior elements in helping to control blood pressure," says researcher Laura P. Svetkey, MD, director of the Hypertension Center at Duke University School of Medicine. "A little nudge in the right direction seems to go a long way in helping people lose weight, increase their physical activity, and eat healthier to lower their blood pressure and reduce risk of cardiovascular disease. And if it only takes a little nudge to get people motivated to be on the right track, that's terrific. (Make sure you cite anything you use!!)
iii. Experiential background (previous teaching?)- Have they been told by health care providers in the past? What will change their view to be open to learning this time?
iv. Current status (age intellectual level and/or educational level, etc)-describe the population you are teaching, how does this affects your teaching method. Teens, older perhaps high school educated, primarily Spanish speakers, homeless population (they have so many other factors in their life this may not be high on the list)
v. Interest and actual and/or potential barriers to learning- Lack of transportation, homeless, poverty level, feel like it is out of their hands, fear of failure, lack of motivation, environment, lack of money to buy medications/go to appointments, etc

Assessment of Needs and Rationales
During the current Covid-19 pandemic, there were numerous reports of mental health issues increasing or worsening for different groups in the world. One particular group that was greatly affected includes the caregivers. COVID-19 caused a lot of stress, disorganization, disruptions and also led to fear. People did not know what to expect, and with fake reports circulating on social media platforms, things became unbearable. For the caregivers, however, their lives were greatly disrupted. For example, caregivers had to find ways to remain calm and care for their patients who were either not allowed or refused to go to the hospital to fear contracting COVID-19. Some caregivers had to watch as their patients got worse and eventually passed on because of the fear that gripped the world.
Furthermore, priority was given to COVID-19 patients, and even cancer patients found it incredibly difficult to gain access to treatment. According to Amiel and Ulitzur (2020), burnout was a major problem for caregivers even before the pandemic. However, with such scenes, a majority succumbed to greater levels of stress, anger, and helplessness.
There is a need, therefore, to help ensure that caregivers are not strained and mentally exhausted. There is a teaching need for caregivers to help ensure that they do not succumb to the mental burden they have been subjected to during the COVID-19 pandemic. The majority have seen their stress levels rise, which is counterproductive and negatively impacts their well-being. Further, reports indicate that caregivers are at a disadvantage as more of them reportedly show heightened stress levels. Sheth et al. (2020) reveal that the stress level for caregivers has increased compared to their stress levels in the pre-COVID-19 period. Such reports are helping to paint a clear picture of how much the caregivers have suffered during the pandemic. For the majority, expectations, and disappointments added to their stress levels since the pandemic strained their work and slowly and permanently took many of their patients. In their article, Budnick et al. (2021) take note of certain issues that they consider to have been COVID-19 related indicators of care stress. These issues include the worsened conditions during the pandemic, heightened demand for caregivers, and widespread negative feelings. These factors played a major role in the lives of caregivers and made many increasingly susceptible to elevated stress levels.
