Healthcare systems internationally are dealing with diminishing resources at a period when demand for healthcare is going up. The World Economic Forum predicts that there will be a 117% rise in health spending over the next ten years while the national health expenditure is expected to go up by $3.5 trillion in the next three decades. Understanding this trend is important as it is considered to be among some of the things that have hindered access and equity in the healthcare sector (Hasnain-Wynia et al., 2015).
Over the years, various stakeholders have been looking for cost-effective, efficient solutions to transform healthcare and deal with their fast diminishing resource issues. They are coming up with process-mediated developments as well as standardized measures, and optimizing human resources with the goal of ensuring that there is an enduring quality improvement as well as bringing down costs.
