History
Atlanta owes its presence to the railways, the courses not entirely set in stone by topography. The city sits on the southern furthest point of the Appalachian Mountains, and it turned into the passage through the traffic needed to pass between the south of the Atlantic Seaboard and districts toward the west. Around 1837 a spot close to what is currently Five Points, the focal point of the modern city, was selected for the southern end of a railroad built toward the north to Chattanooga, Tennessee ("Britannica" 2022). The area was initially known as Terminus and afterward as Marthasville. The name was then renamed Atlanta for the Railroad. Later on, a few other rail lines were built in the city by 1860.
