The Objective of the Study
This study aims to determine the levels of atmospheric pollution from particulate matter (PM) from the environment during the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Why was the subject picked? Why is it important?
Examining the levels of atmospheric pollution resulting during international events is essential in determining the most significant contributors to the pollution. The 2008 Beijing Olympics is one of the few international events that attracted large numbers of people and increased the level of atmospheric pollution. Therefore, examining the significant pollutants in such events is paramount to determining solutions to environmental pollution in the future.
Methods
Selection of the Study Site
In selecting the study site, the researchers considered the proximity to the location where the 2008 Beijing Olympics was held. The researchers decided on an area free from other industrial air pollutants.
Sampling Methods
The sampling tool used was the High Volume Cascade Impactor. In sampling the PM, the size of the PM was fractionated in three stages, with the sampling period being between July 28 to September 3, 2008, and from September 13 to October 7, 2008.
Sample Analysis Methods
In analyzing the collected data, the researchers used t-tests. The t-tests provided correlations about the PM source regions in Beijing, the source control, and the n...
