1.The topic of your paper, in economic terms.
2.The argument that you plan to make: how your topic had affected the history of music.
3.One musical example (not from class) that will help to support your argument.
4.A complete citation (author, title, date, etc.) for at least one source related to the example that you describe above.
Prompt
This semester, we consider how the forces of economics can influence the production, distribution, and consumption of music in a variety of styles and genres. For the final paper, choose one concept from the field of economics and use it to explain something about the history of music. The strongest essays will focus on one specific concept and one specific style of music. The concept may be one that we have discussed in class or one that you plan to study independently. Economics A–Z, a glossary hosted by The Economist ( http://www(dot)economist(dot)com/economics-a-to-z/) is a good place to start.
Be sure to introduce your chosen economic topic to the reader and to discuss its impact upon music that has not been closely examined in class. Write as if your reader has no more than a general understanding of economics and music. Do not assume that the reader will already be acquainted with the concepts and musical examples that you plan to discuss. Provide in-text citations using MLA or Chicago style, and include a list of works cited on a separate page at the end. Essay length 1000–1800 words (excluding the Works Cited page).
