Introduction
Globalization is the process of interaction between different nations or people and is mostly facilitated by changes in transport and communications. On the other side, culture is referred to as the way of life of a specific group of individuals what had been developed and practiced over the years. The impacts of globalization in the various aspects of life across all regions in the world has been surrounded with controversies. It has both positive and negative implication on cultural systems. This has made some people developed a fear that globalization will eventually result in cultural homogenization. On the other hand, some individuals believe that Technology has dissolved international boundaries and this has made it possible for people to integrate therefore learning and absorbing cultures belonging to people from other countries. This paper will outline and describe why the positive influences of globalization supersede the negative impacts.
Globalization has promoted multiculturalism; this refers to the peaceful co-existence of people from different cultures, beliefs, ethnicities, nationalities and different races to live together in the same society (Doğan, 2017). Multiculturalism has many advantages in a society because it makes it possible for individuals to experience different ways of life such as the behaviors of other people. It is essential noting that promoting multicultural education may help the children in comprehending and appreciating different cultures and this may help in reducing racism in social places such as in schools. When people experience and learn the different wars of life, they are able to accommodate people coming from other cultures.
Most importantly, multiculturalism can also advantage other sectors in society such as businesses. For example, cultural diversity in a company can help in promoting respect between the employees. Usually, people say or do things that are disrespectful of others because of ignorance, however, when employees are trained about diversity and allowed to work with people from different cultures they can appreciate and regard the differences that exist among themselves. A multicultural workforce provided business with more ideas and creativity because people from different cultural backgrounds have a unique way of finding solutions to situations.
Additionally, globalization has also promoted self-representation and the sharing of information than ever before. This is mainly as a result of technology advancement which offers the platform where people from different cultures can portray their self-identities.
