Injury and Violence Prevention in Teenagers
The three primary evidence-based approaches that can be used to optimize health for teenagers include preventing mental illnesses at a young age, drugs and substance abuse, and youth awareness about the dangers of violence. In particular, children should be taken good care of to avoid injuries or trauma that might cause depression, anxiety, aggression, and anger during their adolescence (Dorney et al., 2020). Additionally, substance abuse is associated with death, violent behavior, drink-driving, weapon carrying, injuries, self-harm, and sexual risk-taking (Abio et al., 2020). In that light, parents should be on the lookout to ensure that their children are not abusing or misusing drugs. Finally, teen dating violence (TDV) entails a significant public health issue with deleterious effects, namely substance abuse, depression, sadness, and psychiatric symptoms (Reidy et al., 2017). The best way to overcome this problem is through youth awareness programs that reveal the dangers of violence and injuries and how they can adversely affect a person’s adulthood.
Furthermore, the above-mentioned evidence-based approaches minimize health disparity among teenagers. For instance, preventing childhood injuries and violence help children to grow well and are likely to lead healthier lives during their adolescence and early adulthood.
