The triumph to tragedy story is about the struggle of the African American Soldiers for their recognition and citizenship and manhood during the Spanish –America-Cuba Filipino War. It focuses on gender analysis while demonstrating how the black soldiers fought in the war for two important reasons such as the means of exercising their citizenship and demonstrating that they were real men. There was a national obsession for the reflection of manhood and backgrounds.
