Social Injustice: Should It Be Taught At Home Or At School?
Introduction
The simple definition of social injustice is the way unjust actions are carried out in society. In this case, there is inequality, and people are not treated the same way. This means that the equals are treated unequally and the unequal treated equally. The most common examples of social injustice include homophobia and discrimination. Discrimination is prevalent in the provision of healthcare services, education, and transport systems, to mention a few. Here, people are treated unequally from the others. In America, discrimination is unlawful, and laws have been enacted to prevent the act. Homophobia refers to a situation where one shows dislike and hate against homosexual people. These include bisexual, transgender, lesbians, and gay people. In this situation, these people are shown negative attitudes that can lead to loss of self-esteem and related mental conditions such as depression.
The issue of whether social injustice should be taught at home or school is all over. There are benefits associated with both of these teaching places. In a school setting, a student is given the freedom to ask all the questions bothering them in addition to being able to interact with the diverse members of the class.
In some cases, they share their experiences on issues such as discrimination. This serves as an excellent learning environment for the students. In a home setting, the child is likely to feel comfortable talking to their parents about social injustice and asking respective questions. The question remains, which is the best place to teach about social injustice? The essay discusses whether social injustice should be taught at home or school.
Teaching Social Injustice at school: Supportive points
To start with, education has always been political. This means that legislative structures in the country support school systems. It is evident that the topics taught in school settings are likely to cause different views. Some students are good in debates, and some of them end up in politics. To add on, schools form a community setting that allows students to vote and listen to their leaders. During the evening, the students take part in athletic activities which are watched by parents and the members of the community. A school is made up of classrooms that teach the students about current issues in society (Olesen 1). Most schools around the world have lessons where the children are taught about social injustices, as a way of preparing them to cope with the outside world.
Schools that teach their students about life skills allow them to deal with the outside world. A school is like a second home to children and teachers. After finishing their education system, they attend high school and colleges. Here, they have broken out of their cocoons and are supposed to deal with practical issues head-on. For ...
