Introduction
Gravity is a force that is presumed to attract or pull objects towards the center of the earth. It can also be defined as a force that brings objects that have mass are brought towards one another (Ciufolini, 2016, 120). The force ensures that objects with mass do not have zero weight. Mass is a property of the physical concentration of a body and its resistance to a change of motion (acceleration) whenever a force is applied to it. Mass is measured in kilograms (kg’s). Weight is a force with which a body is pulled towards the center of the earth. Weight is calculated by multiplying the mass of the object with the gravitational force. Weight is measured in Newton's (N’s). Force is any interaction that changes the motion of an object.
Newton’s Law of gravity is a law of physics that was developed by Sr. Isaac Newton. The Law states that every particle in the universe is attracted to any other particle which has equal mass as it. The theory was developed after Newton wondered why it is that when objects are thrown up, instead of remaining up they fall down. The argument was based on the fact that there was definitely something that was pulling these objects down. The throwing of something up, e.g. a stone, involves exerting of a force that makes the object to resist this force. However, due to friction and other factors that affect motion in objects, the force reduces as the object goes higher to a point of zero movement. Instead of remaining there, the object is pulled down by the force of gravity. The theory was developed to scientifically help understand why this happens.
Newton’s Law of Motion
The theory, like earlier stated, tries to define and explain the force that pulls objects towards the center of the earth. The force that makes objects with mass so as not to have zero weight, meaning that any object that has mass has a weight greater than zero. The theory of gravity by Isaac Newton was later developed into a law of motion. Newton’s Law of Motion describes various reasons for motion. To help understand the theory of motion, Sir Newton divided the law into three laws with each law representing an objective or fact in the law of gravity.
Newton’s First Law: The first law of gravity states that an object remains at a position of rest unless a force acts on it. The law argues that a change in motion, application of force is the only thing that removes a body from its place of rest (Katsikadelis, 2018, 27-38). For example, a ball that is lying on a field, is at zero motion. When a player hits the ball, he applies force on it changing its motion causing it to move. The force applied removes the ball from its place of rest. The law also a...
