Elon Musk is one of the wealthiest entrepreneurs in the world today. Currently, he is worth approximately $162.1 billion. He was born in Pretoria, South Africa, in 1971. His father, Errol Musk, is an engineer, and his Canadian mother, Maye Musk, is a model. During his childhood, Musk showed a significant interest in computers. He migrated to Canada at the age of 17 years, where he joined Queen University. In 1992, Musk went to the United States of America (USA) to study physics and business at Pennsylvania University. He got his Ph.D. in physics at Stanford University, California. Musk has always been passionate about physics and technology. He is an entrepreneur, engineer, and prominent business person. The person has always believed that he can transform the world for the better. Musk develops technologies to improve human life by solving existing problems. Currently, he is the founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Tesla Inc. Musk is the CEO, head designer, and chief technology officer (CTO) of SpaceX. Additionally, he is the co-founder of OpenAI and Neuralink (Rowlatt). Despite being a prominent entrepreneur, Musk is also an environmental conservation enthusiast. However, he has not managed to be the wealthiest entrepreneur without encountering various challenges. For Musk to be where he is today, he has worked hard for it through technological innovations and inventions that have changed people's lives for the better.
Musk completed his Ph.D. during the era of the Internet boom. In 1995, Musk, together with his brothers Greg Kouri and Kimbal Musk, started a company called Zip2. Initially, Zip2 was called Global Link Information Network. Musk is a creative and critical thinker. When opening Zip2, Musk wanted to ensure that businesses can use the Internet for advertising their products. For this reason, Zip2 offered local firms a web presence such that they can reach many people. Zip2 helped numerous businesses to present their products and services on the Internet. Due to his brilliant business ideas, Musk always gets funding for his projects (Huddleston). For instance, when starting Zip2, Musk was funded by his brothers and a small group of investors. Musk's first system combined the Zip2 database with Navteq. Global Link Information Network changed its name to Zip2 in 1996. During the same year, the company was financed $3 million by Mohr Davidow Ventures. Musk helped the business to re-strategize, where it began selling software packages to various newspaper agencies to build their directories. Due to his contributions to the company, Musk was appointed as the CEO and CTO of Zip2. Zip2 trademark was "We Power the Press" (Saint-Martin). Zip2 provided services for Hearst Corporation, The New York Times, and Knight-Ridder. The company became a significant component in the newspaper industry. Indeed, it had partnered with around 160 newspapers by 1998. Compaq acquired zip2 in 1999 for approximately $305 million. Compaq wanted to enhance its AltaVista search engine.
