A college is a place where many students aim to go to after high school. Many have their different motives which basically is the pathway to a well-paying job in future. Unfortunately, this has become a fallacy with many graduates staying jobless many years after graduation. The high rates of joblessness and college dropouts create a negative notion as to the importance of having a college degree. Attending college does not only imply having a job or the several self-satisfying believes of people. There are many reasons as to why college is a necessary step in the life of a person before death.
A college education enhances one’s knowledge, thinking capability, and mental ability. You cannot handle something or create something without learning of it first. College offers the opportunity to tap knowledge from qualified and trained trainers. For instance, you can design a building or do architectural work without having theoretical and practical information on the same. In Steve Job’s 2005 speech in Stanford offers an example of how college knowledge helped. He states, “the choreography I learned in college helped me design the typography in the Mac computer. What I learned then was priceless.”. It made his breakthrough in the computer technology after ten years of dropping out of college. Therefore, whatever is learned in college may be very useful in the later life. Knowledge sticks, is valuable and never diminishes with time. Job says, “you cannot connect the dots looking forward, you can only connect them looking backward.” Hence, a college degree acts as a destiny connecter.[Steve Job’s 2005 Stanford Commencement Address]
College shapes you as an individual. It equips you with the necessary requirement to be independent, innovative and creative in your area of interest. It is a place where many people discover their talents, learn valuable skills and personality. For example, a student studying nutrition is able to start own bakery or hotel from the concepts taught in college. Also, a medical student becomes a doctor out of the learning experience in medical college.
