Born in 1805 in the Woodstock United States, Hiram Powers is a renowned American sculptor who applied the Neoclassical style of the mid-1800s. Just like most American sculptors at the time, Hiram was skilled in carving of statues based on the ideals of beauty of the ancient Roman and Greek. It is his 1843 Greek Slave Sculptor that brought him to great heights and being established one of the greatest artists of the 21st century. Hiram Powers died in 1873 in Florence Italy.

Upon inspection at a close range, a small cross is evident and a carved locked to the support. The cross is a representation of the faith of Christianity, as the locked is a symbol of great love.
