Analysis of Various Chorus Works
Instruction:
Choose two of the four pieces from our repertoire to explore and discuss all three areas:
Composer- When did they write this piece? What is the background for its composition? For example was this a commission, was it written for someone or some event? Did any of this inform why or how they wrote the pieces?
Poet- Who is the poet? When did they write the poetry? How were they connected to the composer? How does the composer's setting of the text enhance or detract from the text?
Recording- This is more about interpretation, not accuracy. What is your reaction to the interpretation in these recordings? How does the choir bring the work to life? How does the recording enhance or expand your understanding of the piece?
