Understanding Article Summaries An article summary is a short and focused about one scholarly article. Although article summaries are often short, they are a strong indicator of your reading and writing skills. Professors ask you to write article summaries to help you to develop essential skills in critical reading, summarizing, and clear, organized writing. Furthermore, an article summary requires you to read a scholarly article quite closely, which provides a useful introduction to the conventions of writing in your discipline.
Common Problems in Article Summaries The most common problem that students have when writing an article summary is that they misunderstand the goal of the assignment. In an article summary, your job is to write about the article, not about the actual topic of the article. For example, if you are summarizing Smith’s article about the causes of the Bubonic plague in Europe, your summary should be about Smith’s article: What does she want to find out about the plague? What evidence does she use? What is her argument? You are not writing a paper about the actual causes of Bubonic plague in Europe.
Another problem: These summaries should be paraphrased of the article and not quotes from the article. Read the article and then let your audience know what the article found and how they found those results.

Article Summary on Autism
One of the major concerns across the world has been addressing the needs and challenges of children living with autism. Teachers and parents alike can learn the most ideal behaviours to follow and ways of taking care of victims of autism disorder. Notably, race, gender, and age have a significant influence on children living with autism. The children with the illness from minority races have varied thresholds for the disorder. For instance, African Americans and Hispanic chi8ldren are at a high risk of autism than the United States born whites. Researchers should recognize the importance of conducting studies on ethnicity, age, and gender that have an influence on risk and protective factors of autism.
Race
Race and ethnicity are major factors that have an influence on the diagnosis and risk factors for autism. One of the compelling research evidence is that the children of African Americans, Vietnams, and Hispanic have higher risks of being diagnosed with the illness. However, foreign born black mothers are at the highest risks of having a child with autism illness. The differences in autism disorder risks by nativity and race implies variations in various etiologic factors that might affect early childhood development. The children from minority races are vulnerable to toxic environmental factors, stress, and even unbalanced diet that might that are major risk factors.
Notably, children born to Mexican born women have similar risk levels of autism disorders just like US-born whites. According to Imm, White, & Durkin (2019), the children are at relatively lower risks for diagnosis with “less impaired” language than the ones in minority groups. Equally, the US-born Hispanics have higher risks for diagnosis with the illness and other developmental issues. Genetic variation is one of the major factors that are likely to influence the racial differences in diagnosis of the illness for the whites and members of other minority races. The US minority groups are under-identified with autism because of higher risk factors.
Researchers have conducted numerous studies on the racial differences in the diagnosis of autism disorder. Imm et al., (2019) aimed at identifying the challenges and needs that college students with autism disorder encounter in life in the research for their article. Arguably, the victims from minority races face issues in communicating and interacting with others effectively, which have an impact on their lives. The research shows that college students living with autism are more to require additional social support services and additional learning than their counterparts living without the illness. Importantly, all academic stakeholders have to understand the link between emotional competence and academic learning. Therefore, the research findings in the article reinforce the notion that lack of social-emotional competence can have negative repercussions on student’s academic performance.
Gender
One of the most consistent research findings is that the diagnosis for autism disorder is higher in males than females. Over the years, researchers have conducted comprehensive resear...
