The authors of the article suggest that serial killers are rare, but their effects have a profound impact on society. The method of study employed in the article is a systematic review which considers other research from the other articles. The authors found that the serial killing might be a result of the complex interaction of psychological, biological and sociological factors surrounding the life of a serial killer. A serial killer may also possess neurodevelopmental problems such as head injuries or autism disorders. However, the authors indicate that most of the studies about the serial killers are at their infancy stage and therefore they are speculative. Due to this limitation of the study, the authors or this article suggests that more exhaustive and innovative studies should be done in the future to make this subject clearer.
There is a high degree of relatedness between the content of this article and the topic of research. The article gives the possibilities that might make a person develop into a serial killer which is the area of concern of this study. The article addresses the investigations about the identity management of the serial killers. The authors indicate that the studies about the communal discourse about the acts of serial homicide are essential in understanding the connection between the stigma and identity of the serial killers. In this article, the authors did an interpretive study, which examined the interviews of thirteen serial killers to study their stigmatized identity management. After the analysis, the authors came into a conclusion that male serial murderers rejected their identity by showing a lack of rehabilitation over their abnormal behavior or even just to justify their actions. The thirteen serial killers also indicated that influences from the society which include communal discourse relating to their serial killing and prior traumatic experience greatly influenced their management of identity.
