1. Does support of these laws seem to be increasing or decreasing?
The right-to-work laws mean that workers cannot be forced to be union members or pay union fees and dues as they have the freedom to decide whether to become unionized workers or not a labor union in the workplace. Kentucky is a right-to-work state, and there is increased and widespread support for the law, which stopped members from being coerced into joining unions, providing financial support dues or fees. It is optional for employees in the unionized workplaces to join and pay the unions, but there is already low union membership in the U.S.
2. Has this affected labor relations of business in your state?
The Kentucky right-to-work laws apply to the collective bargaining contracts after January 7, 2017, for both public and private employees (NRTW, n.d.). These laws were adopted statewide where in the past there are 12 local ordinances, and the Kentucky Supreme Court upheld the right-to-work at the state level. The Kentucky Chamber and business associations support the right to work and are against coercive labor unionism, which impedes economic growth and employment (Kentucky Chamber, 2019). Since workers are not required to sign collective bargaining agreements and pay dues and fees to the unions, the labor unions try to influence collective bargaining in other words.
