Part-Time Jobs: Advantages and Disadvantages
Introduction
There are a variety of work plans that present different benefits and demerits for employees as well as their employers. Although some flexibilities in terms of working hours are often oriented to the welfare of workers, others are more focused to meet different business needs. This variation in working hours has been described in academic literature to refer to the standards required to meet the business working hours (Titopoulou, Ganeva, Staykova & Titopoulos, 2017). In one study, Titopoulou et al (2017) have identified the merits and demerits of different work plans or working time for both the workers and employers such as working on shifts, overtime, part-time working, hourly working, and compressed work plans. This paper aims to summarize some of the advantages and disadvantages of working on part-time jobs for both employers and their workers in today’s working economy.
While identifying the advantages and disadvantages of working on part-time jobs, it is important to focus on the different forms of flexibilities that interact with situations such as students working on temporary jobs. This form of arraignment offers both the students and businesses the temporary flexibility to attain their goals. At the same time, businesses can utilize flexible working hours and temporary employment to meet market demands by either increasing or decreasing the working time of their workers or the number of employees (Titopoulou et al., 2017). In general, part-time work arraignments allow employees to better strike a balance between their personal lives and work.
