Comparison of People’s Dietary Habits among Chinese in America and China
1.0 Introduction
Nutrition plays a key role in determining the general health of any human being. Nutrients are found in foods and their intake are determined by the age, sex, physical activity levels, and the race of a person. However, unlike common beliefs that the intake of nutrients is a simple biochemical and psychological process, food intake is highly dependent on culture, Socio-economic standards of a given place, and lastly the political state in which a region is in (Weng, 2007). Therefore, people living in different regions with different cultural, political, and economic systems will be likely to have different dietary behaviors based on their region. This paper compares the different kinds of staple foods people eat and compares the diets with their physical activities and body size.
* Dietary habits: Why people living in China and America have different dietary habits
People in China have different cultural habits from the Americans. Culture plays an important role in determining the staple food of a certain community. In this case, the Chinese community’s staple food is rice. China is one of the largest producer of rice worldwide and this makes it be their staple food (Zhang, 2011). Chinese diets are, therefore, made up of rice as a main ingredient incorporated in the many dishes that the Chinese cuisine is made up of. On the other hand, Americans have a culture of junk food. They include hamburgers, pizza, apple pies, and fries. These two different communities have cultures that determine their dietary differences as evident from the two cultures that have different staple foods. It is, therefore, evident from this that culture plays an important role in the differences in dietary habits between the Chinese and the Americans (Weng, 2007).
* Physical Activity: How many physical activities will cost each day for a man and woman?
Studies show that in China, people tend to do jobs that require a lot of physical activity together with sleeping. On the other hand, Chinese people living in America tend to have more sitting hours, hence less physical activity. This is brought about by the kind of work they do. A large percentage of Chinese in China tends to have leaner bodies as compared to those living in the United States. This is solely brought about by the fact that, these two people who are geographically apart are different despite being of the same race. Another very key aspect that one can also look at is the fact that the American people tend to take sporting activities more serious and are often exercising so as to remain fit. On the other hand, the Chinese from China as compared to those abroad have little time for exercise, and most of them being lean, do not see the need to take physical exercise more seriously (Howe, 1997).
As it understandable that physical activity plays an important role in how any individual eats. For instance, for a person who undertakes a lot of physical activity, it is important that they eat so as to be able to cop...
