Articles of confederation, as introduced in 1777, was the first governing system of the US created to outline the structure, functions, and limitations of the state. The article solely created a national government that placed more power in the hands of the state. It ensured that each state made its money and the limited role of congress in collecting money. The fear of giving excess power to the central government typically created an underfunded central government that could not resolve internal and international disputes or even defends itself. The government could not collect taxes under the federation article, leaving it underfunded and unable to pay off its debts. Also, the article of federation failed to create the court system.
