China is known world over for her great strides in the field of industrialization and large population.Statistics ranks China as one of the most populated countries in the world. China’s population is estimated to be around two billion (Gilboy & Heginbotham, 2012). The country is perceived to be a ‘middle kingdom’ since it has a middle-income population, yet the country has a huge economy. Even though the country has a high population, a majority of her citizens are outside the poverty line. Statistics further indicate that about ten percent of the population lives on one dollar and this is a good improvement compared to about three decades ago. It is interesting to note that despite population control in China, the country still leads with a large population. The Chinese Government is trying various measures to control population. For instance, the policy of one child is used in the country to control further population increase. The use of family planning methods is an intervention that the country has embraced in a great way (Scott, 2011). Overall, the population of china has played a major role in fostering economic growth in the country.
The large population in China is attributed to early deaths (Scott, 2011). In the recent past, life expectancy in the country was 35 years. This made many people giving birth very early before death caught up with them. It is also attributed to improved living standards since a majority of the population lives above poverty line with ten percent of the population living on one dollar. Industrialization has also played part in fostering population growth in the country. This means that a majority of her citizens are in gainful employment and, therefore, able to take care of their families (Gilboy & Heginbotham, 2012).
