The Indian Removal that occurred in the 1830s was a devastating event in the lives of Native Americans. Nevertheless, President Jackson oversaw its implementation by following the following logical thinking. According to the president, the main reason for the removal of Indians from North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and Alabama and was to enable Indians to live separate lives from whites, free them from the control of State governments and facilitate their pursuant of happiness the way they see fit and under their rules (Our Document, n.d). Its implementation would end the dangerous collision between general authorities and those in the states because of the Indians. It would enable large and civilized populations such as the whites to inhabit the large tracts of land currently occupied by the Indians. Additionally, opening the territory inhabited by Indians for whites would strengthen these areas and grow their population, wealth, and power (Our Document, n.d).
