Causes of American Revolution
The Townshend Acts included several laws introduced by Charles Townshend and passed by the British Parliament in 1767. The Acts required the colonialists to pay for imports after the opposition of the Stamps Act. According to Americans, these Acts contributed to revolution since it was not correct to have them pay for taxes passed by the British without an American representative. The Acts led to constant conflicts in the colonies, sneaking in of imported goods in the escape of taxation, and later the Boston Massacre.
The British passed the on American colonies in 1765 that required them to pay for the acquisition of any printed materials like newspapers; after payment, the paper had to be stamped to show the American in possession had paid for it (Corbett, Janssen, Lund, Pfannestiel, Waskiewicz, & Vickery, 2014). According to the British government, the Act would help in the repayment of the expenses on the French and Indian War, where the Americans won with the assistance of Britain (Schlesinger, 1935).
