What Possible Connections Might Be Made Between The Intellectual Developments In Scientific Thinking During The Seventeenth Century And The Reformation Of The Sixteenth Century? Was The New Science Incompatible With Religious Faith? Explain.
Reformation (16th century) and scientific revolution (17th century) overlapped in terms of geographical location and time. At the time, intellectual life was majorly dominated by ideas espoused by religious institutions and leaders. There was a dramatic development in both science and religion. Reformation took off around 1517 with key reformationist, Martin Luther, challenging the existing theological doctrine. The reformation triggered a bitter war against Catholicism, a war that lasted almost another century (Sergio 44). Ideally, through the two periods, the religious convictions between emerging forces became a precursor religious and scientific ideas. All seminal events, spurred reformation, and subsequently scientific revolution, as the once dominant church could no longer contain the deviations from existing mainline theologist and natural philosophy.
