Introduction
Over the past few centuries, the source of energy has been fossil fuels (coal, oil, and gas) and hydroelectricity. Nuclear energy gains its usage since the 1950s but still has not overtaken fossil fuels in terms of usage. Throughout the 17 and 18th century, America relied more on organic sources of energy until the discovery of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels in the form of petroleum, coal, and natural gas, essentially enabled the us harness the power of the sun and drive a major economic growth throughout the 18th and 19th century (Shafiee, & Topal, 2008). For example, coal powered technologies increased the stamina and precision of American workers during the 18th century, making the us labor force one of the most productive country. Fossil fuels (petroleum, coal, and gas) played a significant role throughout the industrial revolution to date.

Energy history in the us has undergone a significant change, with three types of fossil fuels – natural gas, coal, and petroleum – making up to 80% of America’s energy consumption in the past two hundred years. In 2018 and 2019 alone, fossil fuel (petroleum, gas, and coal) contributed about 68% of global electricity, compared to 60% in the late 20th century (Newman, 2017). While renewable sources of energy have increased in the recent past, the major role of fossil fuels in energy production remains undeniable. Throughput the 18th century to date, energy demands have almost tripled leading to historical extraction of fossil fuels from the earth service.
Fossil fuel energy plants burned coal for the better part of the 18th and 19th century in order to generate steam used by electricity companies to generate electricity.
