Introduction Figures indicating the level of smoking and its economic effects in the United States In every year, statistics from the Center for disease control and prevention indicate that 480,000 Americans die from the effects of smoking (CDC, 2015). Forty one thousand Americans also die of passive smoking. Moreover, the smoking related illness within the United States leads to unbudgeted expenses of $300 billion a year. The productivity of the society depreciates by approximately $156 million due to the effects associated with tobacco smoking. In the year 2014, 16.8% of the United States of America which represents at least 40 million people were indicated to be smokers. Over 80% of these individuals smoked daily while the rest being partial smokers. Considering ethnic group, the highest population of smokers are considered to be the American Indian society comprising of 29.2% smokers (CDC, 2015) Thesis statement These statistics are a clear indication that the government needs to implement some strategies which will help the number of the smokers reduce thus reducing death from smoking-related diseases. This paper will focus on some of the strategies that the United States government has put in place to curb smoking.
