Marijuana, also known as kush among other names, is a cannabis plant that is prepared for use as a medicine or psychoactive drug. Cannabis can be used in the form of an extract, smoking, or vaporization (Manuella, 2015). Marijuana was mostly used in the 3rd millennium BC, and since then marijuana has been legally restricted in most countries for use, sale, or possession. Recommended use of medical cannabis by physician takes place in most countries including Australia, Canada, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands, and United States (Gies & Grant, 2014). This paper seeks to respond as to why marijuana should be legal in the United States.
Marijuana should be legalized in the United States because it known to relieve a lot of medical ailments especially nausea, which is a side effect of chemotherapy for cancer patients. The drug also helps to relax tension of muscles, chronic pain, spasms, and HIV/AIDS patients who have lost appetite (Baron, 2015).
Another reason why marijuana should be legalized in the United States is because the use of marijuana can be useful in aiding sleep, mental depression, and anxiety disorders (Karolina, & Tabata). The cancer national institute announced that patients who use marijuana reported to have a more restful sleep.
