Theory, Research, and Practice for Surgical Site Infection

Research Paper Instructions:

In this assignment, you will write a paper that analyzes a scenario and considers the relationships between theory, research, and practice in evidence-based research.
Step 1: Read the following scenario.
During the course of your practice as a staff nurse on a medical-surgical unit, the nurse manager and unit-based council state that discharge teaching for postoperative patients will now include information pertaining to wound assessments, care, and dressing changes (as needed). The basis for this change stemmed from the unit consensus about postoperative readmissions with wound infections. The unit-based council performed a review of the literature and has decided to implement a discharge teaching plan that will include specific information addressing wound care.
Step 2: Identify one research article pertaining to this problem.
The article must be from nursing research from the United States and be published within the last five years in a peer-reviewed journal. Suggestions for finding an article include use of the library and journal articles posted to the Internet.
Step 3: Review aspects of theories and conceptual models.
Consider the various aspects of a theory and nursing conceptual models.
Consider the purpose of research and how theory and research work together to support evidence-based practice.
Think of how theory and nursing conceptual models could be used to reflect on the problem in nursing practice described in Step 1.
Step 4: Write a two-four page paper.
Write a paper that analyzes the importance of theory, research findings, and practice as it relates to evidence-based research. Then, using the scenario from Step 1 and the article you identified in Step 2, summarize how the aspects of a theory would help support evidence-based research into the problem described in the scenario. Also, describe which nursing conceptual model would be appropriate for research into this problem and why.
Construct your paper and cite any sources in APA format.

Introduction
Surgical site infection, defined as infection at or near surgical incisions within 30 days following surgery, accounts for a significant portion of surgical morbidity and death each year. SSI is regarded as one of the most serious issues in surgical wards. Although full infection eradication in surgical patients is unachievable, lowering the infection rate to a minimally tolerable level can provide significant advantages to patients while also saving money. A surgical infection has a complex cause, and reducing and controlling it necessitates both surveillance and a hospital-wide effort with organizational assistance and management.
Surgical Site Infection comprises 15% of all nosocomial infections and is the most prevalent nosocomial infection in operating patients. The result of postoperative infection is a rise in postoperative hospital residence, a significant escalation in expenses, greater hospital readmission rates, and endangered health consequences. Therefore, their avoidance is the first step in SSI therapy (Andersson et al., 2018). This includes careful surgical techniques, prompt administration of enough preoperative antibiotics, and other preventative action to neutralize the threat of surgical personnel, operating rooms, and patient's endogenous skin flora to bacterial, viral, and fungal infection. This review focuses on the latter element of contamination and, in particular, the mechanical preventive measures. Lessees have been a focal point of pay-for-performance programs. Surgical site infections cause most readmissions. In order to enhance quality, readmissions for SSI might be a distinct objective.
Methods
For patients receiving colectomies from 2013 to 2014, remittance risk for SSI was assessed. Hazard models have been designed to evaluate variables and variations in risk-adjusted readmission rates for SSI related to the hospital level.
Findings
The readmission rate for SSI varied from 1.45 percent to 6.34 percent of 59,088 patients across 525 institutions. Male sex, smoking, open surgery, and hospitals with significant socio-economic deprivation are more likely to be related to SSI readmissions. The correlations between SSI readmission efficiency and overall SSI efficiency or total recovery rate (r2 = 0, 29, r2 = 0, 14) were modest after risk mitigation
Use of Evidence-Based research to Prevent Surgical Site Infections
Evidence-based medicine and eventually wound treatment are needed to have the highest levels of evidence. Adopting evidence-based injury recommendations has been recommended to enhance patient results and lower the cost of hospital wound care. Evidence-based wound handling has been characterized as the blend of best scientific data with clinical knowledge and patient values (Awad, 2019). In the case of this issue, a UK audit was carried out; it showed that nursing time spent in changing clothing amounted to 88,5 full-time equivalents for one year, but the expense associated with wounds for patients ranged from 19000 to 31,000 bed days annually. Economic estimates in the United Kingdom show that cost linked to wounds accounts for around 4% of the cost of health, and that ratio increases. It was re...
