Modern Treatment For Mental Ilness. Research Paper

Research Paper Instructions:

ASSIGNMENT #1. MIDTERM: PROGRAM DESCRIPTION, LOGIC MODEL, & LITERATURE REVIEW.
The first major assignment is designed to help you define the program you will evaluate. The assignment starts with a description of the program you plan to evaluate. Then, you will complete a logic model of the program and provide a narrative describing your logic model illustration. Then, you will identify a potential research question based on the characteristics and connections you find in the logic model. You will then begin a literature review to inform your research question. You will complete sections of this assignment throughout the quarter as you come to understand your agency’s program and the knowledgebase in your area. This assignment is designed to guide you through a process, which will lead directly to the development of your evaluation proposal (final assignment).
The midterm assignment will include the following sections.
A. Program description (Modern Treatment for mental illness)
B. Logic model
C. Literature review
• Appraisal of evidence
•Integration of the evidence with program and client needs, and practitioner expertise.
Next, please find more details of each section of the midterm assignment.
A. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: In approximately 3 paragraphs, provide a brief description of your program.
• Background information about the extent of the social problem addressed by the program you intend to evaluate (should be supported by demographic data from the literature on prevalence of the social problem, particularly at the local level if available)
• Brief background information about the program. Background information may include:
• Mission and vision of the program or organization
• Context in which the program is delivered
• Goals and objectives of the program
• Population served
• Number of clients
• Types of programming offered
• Staff characteristics
• Discuss to what extent clients are involved in program management/evaluation, etc.
• Report whether (and how) the program is monitored or evaluated regularly.
The information you provide here will help inform your logic model, which will follow To gather this information, you should review program documents such as brochures, annual reports, strategic plans, mission statements, grant proposals, etc. You may also want to interview persons responsible for the program such as the program director and others at the agency.
B. LOGIC MODEL (30%): Please fill out the logic model template provided in class and on Canvas to describe the program you will evaluate. We will be working on the logic model in class. After completing the logic model template, turn the template into an illustration using arrows to connect specific aspects of the program. After completing an illustrated figure that provides the explicit connections between characteristics of the program, write a narrative (approximately 35 paragraphs) that walks the reader through your logic model illustration.

B. Literature review (40%)
• What is the evaluation research question guiding your project?
• Identify characteristics or connections in the logic model that would serve as a basis for meaningful evaluation questions. Be specific and explicit about your proposed research question
• Search the existing literature for articles on your subject area. If you can’t find articles that are an exact match for your subject area identify articles that inform particular aspects of your research question. When reviewing articles appraise the strength of the research based on the following:
• What is the study’s research question or aim?
• What is a key finding(s) useful in informing your evaluation?
• How does the sample of the journal article study compare to the demographics of the clients within your field placement (or where your research will occur)? What does this say about the generalizability of the results to your population?
• What is the overall quality of the evidence in the study? Is it a strong design? Are there established measures? Is the sample representative of a broader population?

• Chose at least 4 journal articles with strong evidence to use in your literature review. Draft a literature review that will be the basis for the literature review in your Evaluation Proposal. Please use the description below along with course resources as a guide for writing your literature review (Please be sure that this is not an annotated bibliography). Your literature review should be approximately 3-7 double spaced pages.
How do program and change theories apply to the program you are evaluating? What outcome measures have been used or what research designs were used in the reviewed studies?
Have some interventions been found effective for address the issue(s) being addressed by your program? Have intervention been found effective with some populations and not others? What problems were encountered? How did other evaluators address those problems? Note: this section is primary in demonstrating your understanding how this evidence fits (or does not fit) the diverse clientele served at your agency and will help you assess how responsive the evidence is to serving your client group (practice behavior: 4a). Assess the quality of the evidence. Note: This section is primary in demonstrating your ability to contextualize the evidence based practices available in your area, identifying both the strengths and limitations of this evidence on effective or promising practices as well as appraising the extent of evidence supporting the practices at your agency (practice behavior: 6a). Integration of the evidence with program and client needs and practitioner expertise. Describe (in 1-3 paragraphs): What information identified in the literature above is useful to answer your research question? How does the evidence inform the program you are evaluating? How does evidence in the literature fit with program resources, goals, and theoretical orientation of the agency? Describe how clients’ values and preferences may fit or contrast with the evidence in the literature. To what extent does the program use approaches supported by the literature?

* PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Mental Health Center of Denver (MHCD) is a community for recovery, resilience, and awareness of overall well-being through the use of innovative and evidence-based practices. Their program is known to be effective in community behavioral health care that links deep cultural concepts to understand people's everyday life challenges. Their mission is “enriching lives and minds by focusing on strengths and well-being”. The MHCD founded its mission on the philosophy that people can recover from different mental illnesses with proper guidance and treatment that works. Their mission statement can be extended into three aspects, including in making a difference, in providing mental health literacy, and expanding mental health access. In making a difference, they believe that their work can make a difference in helping the well-being of tens of thousands of people every year. In providing mental health literacy, they can increase the awareness of the large community about mental health issues. In expanding access, the MHCD make sure that their services can reach the people using an effective and compassionate treatment (Mental Health Center of Denver, 2020).
They believe that their growing success is directly connected to the mutual trust of patients to the mental health institution. The MHCD's staff are trained in addressing the issues of children, young adults, adults, and families. They enable the children to be more resilient and improve the family's overall health using an individualized community-based approach. The issues of teens and young adults are addressed using the specifically designed transition guidance from adolescence to adulthood. Adult recovery services focus on their strengths to help them improve their well-being. Because the MHCD has multiple community sites, access to public schools, and collaborations with other organizations, they can provide mental health treatment that reaches a greater number of patients (Mental Health Center of Denver, 2020).
The MHCD provides experts in leading the innovation of their services, best practices, and medical intervention. The MHCD experts can learn to apply new evidence-based practices in the health care service while maintaining their daily routine in serving the mental health center. As time pass, best practices are adopted in the workplace. Today, newly implemented practices include, but not limited to, integrated physical and behavioral health, Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment (IDDT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) for the best possible treatment of mental illness and improve the quality of life of the people. The successful implementation of these programs is only possible with the support and guidance of MHCD leaders that take turns their vision to reality (Mental Health Center of Denver, 2020).
