Step 1 Original discussion board responses are based on research. Discuss the questions by researching the issue outside of the course textbook, using health care journals, books, CNO standards and guidelines, news casts, professional experience, etc. The original response for the discussion board will demonstrate an advanced understanding of the subject content and is presented in an insightful, professional manner, demonstrating excellent use of critical thinking skills, applying theory and terminology. The discussion board post will include citations/references, organization of content, and formatting. APA format is required for all discussion posts. Please note that a minimum of 2 citations/references are required for the original post. One of which must be from the CNO Practice Standards and Guidelines and one from an outside resource or from the course readings/text. All written discussion posts should be well organized, demonstrating excellent transitions from point to point, within a range of 75-150 words and be spelling or grammatical error free. If a peer comments on your posting, please reply. Posts and peer responses should be thorough, thoughtful, and based on reading/research. Just posting an "I agree" or "Good ideas" and summarizing what a peer has posted does not meet the discussion board and peer assessment qualifications. Support statements with examples, professional experiences, readings, and references. Although generally shorter and narrower in focus than a traditional essay, discussion posts should be as coherent and scholarly in tone. Think of these posts as a class discussion, in which you want to have a single central argument and clear evidence to support that argument. Keep in mind that your peers will be reading, assessing and responding to you, too. Step 2 These discussion boards are peer assessed. Peer assessment provides multiple sources of feedback, guides students to think critically about course content, and engages them in advanced self-assessment. To complete the discussion board activity, you will need to provide a meaningful comment on your peers posting (provide a reference to support your comment), and then assess the post made by your peer, in a respectful and professional manner. You will review and evaluate the work from one of your peers based on items A - F of the rubric posted below and assign a grade 0-5 to each item based on their descriptions. Provide a rationale for the grade you provided, as well as comments or suggestions for improvement. To provide structured feedback, copy and complete the list below with your comments. For example, “Category A receives a score of .…. because…. my suggestions for improvement are...”
