The global COVID-19 pandemic has posed challenges for nurses that were unimaginable several months ago. Nurses are dedicated to building environments that enable excellent inpatient and family experience, in addition to their current priorities of providing cost-effective, quality, and safe care. The global pandemic has pushed healthcare workers worldwide to respond speedily to numerous quality, safety, patient-family, and work issues (SHUN, 2021). While senior management and their teams in healthcare worldwide mounted numerous rapid organizational responses, nurses' availability, values, and voices proved critical to the rapid and effective interpretation of crisis leadership guidelines. This paper explores how nurses have demonstrated leadership during the pandemic by employing vital decision-making, reacting to unique circumstances and difficulties, providing dependable and safe care delivery, involving patients, families, and their co-workers to create exceptional patient experiences.
Overview
Nurses have learned to deal with fast and mostly unclear decision-making, adapting methods to engage patients and families amid new care circumstances and operational guidelines, delivering care steadfastly with changing measures, and creating an atmosphere that supports patients, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, nurses have used their extensive experience to lead the industry by implementing critical crisis leadership strategies that enabled decision-making, adaption to new difficulties, and collaboration. (Benner et al., 2013).
Decision Making
Nurses pride themselves on the capability to make vital decisions based on evidence as health care professionals. Unfortunately, nurses in health care seldom have the luxury of time, comprehensive or accurate evidence to make knowledgeable decisions in times of crisis, when events change swiftly. Inertia and indecisiveness can be caused by too little, too much, or even conflicting knowledge, as well as fluctuating priorities and high anxiety (Nibbelink & Brewer, 2018). After the pandemic, health changed, and people worked in ways they could never have imagined. It would have been simple to dismiss patient-centered care as troublesome in the face of such uncertainty. Still, an exploration into patient responses opened the way for resolutions that delivered the level of participation required to deliver quality treatment safely. The use of videos and telehealth visits and to keep patients in touch with doctors and amenities necessary for the care and, more significantly, their families were two of the most significant aspects (Monaghesh & Hajizadeh, 2020). Prompt responses from the nurse's allayed anxieties and directed individuals to testing facilities rather than clogging emergency rooms in the neighborhood.
