Select an ethnic minority group that is represented in the United States (American Indian/Alaskan Native, Asian American, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander). Using health information available from Healthy People, the CDC, and other relevant government websites, analyze the health status for this group.
In a paper of 1,000-1,250 words, compare and contrast the health status of your selected minority group to the national average. Include the following:
Describe the ethnic minority group selected. Describe the current health status of this group. How do race and ethnicity influence health for this group?
What are the health disparities that exist for this group? What are the nutritional challenges for this group?
Discuss the barriers to health for this group resulting from culture, socioeconomics, education, and sociopolitical factors.
What health promotion activities are often practiced by this group?
Describe at least one approach using the three levels of health promotion prevention (primary, secondary, and tertiary) that is likely to be the most effective in a care plan given the unique needs of the minority group you have selected. Provide an explanation of why it might be the most effective choice.
What cultural beliefs or practices must be considered when creating a care plan? What cultural theory or model would be best to support culturally competent health promotion for this population? Why?

Health Promotion in Minorities
African Americans are the second-largest minority group in the United States with outstanding religious, social, and ethnic characteristics. The minority group comprises descendants of enslaved individuals who moved from their African lands to work in the New World. African Americans experience high rates of health disparities due to decreased quality of life, lower economic opportunities, and lack of access to healthcare information. The minority groups experience various forms of inequalities that affect their overall wellbeing and health in disproportionate ways. For instance, African Americans have uneven healthcare services, poor health outcomes, and lack of access to health insurance coverage. For that reason, they have a lower life expectancy and experience higher morbidity rates than the whites across the United States.
Description of African Americans and their current Health Status
African Americans encounter significant challenges related to disparities in chronic health conditions, high mortality rates, and disparities in chronic health conditions. The disparities result from inequality in the housing system, economic deprivation, and the healthcare system. Besides, the minority group faces environmental degradation, segregation, and economic deprivation, which affects their overall wellbeing and health levels. According to Bell et al. (2020), racial and ethnic disparities have become prominent issues regarding access to healthcare services. In most instances, African Americans face disproportionate access to healthcare services based on their racial background, unlike the whites. Despite the government's efforts in improving healthcare coverage, African Americans have continued to encounter extensive segregation that limits their access to offered services.
Race and ethnicity have a significant influence on the health of African Americans as a minority group in the United States. Despite the advances in diagnosis and treatment across the United States, African Americans receive lower healthcare quality than whites (Bell et al., 2020). For this reason, the group encounters worse health outcomes than the majority groups. Economic deprivation is one of the contributing factors to the disproportionate access to healthcare against African Americans. Besides, the group encounters significant barriers to healthcare access, such as lack of reliable transport, lack of insurance cover, and low-quality healthcare services.
Health Disparities for African Americans and Nutritional Challenges
According to Healthy People 2020, African Americans experience extensive social and economic disadvantages that result in their disproportionate access to healthcare services (Robbins et al., 2018). For that reason, they encounter higher morbidity and mortality rates across a wide range of health conditions, such as heart illnesses, asthma, hypertension, obesity, and diabetes (Narayan, 2019). Equally, African Americans are likely to undergo surgery and other forms of operations in low-standard hospitals. As a result, they are likely to encounter higher mortality rates than the whites in similar neighborhoods. Similarly, A...
