Previous studies suggest that exercises are beneficial to managing hypertension as physical activities may lower blood pressure. Therefore, this reduces the risk of hypertension. In any case, exercise therapy is associated with reduction in body fat and weight, as well as lower cardiovascular risk factors. Hence, there is a need for patient education to gain knowledge on the role of exercise therapy towards reducing risk of hypertension. Patients may suffer from various co-morbidities, including hypertension, and there is a need to rely on evidence-based practice to improve patient health outcomes (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2010).
Description and rationale for choosing the Health promotion theory (HPT)
The health promotion theory focuses on individual characteristics, behavior and behavioral outcomes, as these factors influence health outcomes (Piper, 2009). Even though, exercise therapy is desired as an intervention, it is through health promoting behavior that patents with hypertension can reduce risks of the condition.
