Nursing Shortage and Turn-Over
Name:
Institution:
Introduction
The shortage of nurses in medical institutions is a continuous problem in the contemporary world. The registered nurses are quitting the profession while only a few students are enrolling for a nursing course. The shortage of nurses which is also related to high nursing turn-over is likely to bring about disastrous effects in regard to care provision to patients (Huber, 2010). This paper discusses the personal expectation of the way nursing leaders and managers ought to approach the problem of nursing shortage and nursing turn-over. There is also an identification of the approach that best fits my personal and professional philosophy of nursing and an explanation of the approach, which is suited to my personal leadership style.

This has generated the problem of long waitlists that turns the applicants away (Roussel, 2013). These are among the numerous reasons contributing to nursing shortage and all nursing managers and leaders should be aware of it, to professionally establish firm solutions for the same.
After investigating about the factors contributing to nursing shortage and rates of turn-over, the nursing leaders and managers should look for the most applicable approaches that would end the problem completely. The older nursing professionals are opting to look for more comfortable and relaxed jobs and others are retiring, making a dual impact on the system of health care in the near future. In the contemporary world there exist greater demands in the system of healthcare, which is already exhausted as consumers continue to expect more from the medical sector. Moreover, some of the nurses approaching the stage of retirement fail to meet the educational needs fit for their services as educators in the schools of nursing. This is mostly contributed by the evolution that took place in the nursing profession in the three previous decades, creating a less number of intakes for the nursing tutors accepted into the schools. The number of students that enter the nursing profession i...
