What is the county or city you have chosen to research?
Situated in the state of Nevada, Clark County is my place of residence. As of 2017, its approximate population is 2,205,079 (Macdonald, 2003).
What health issues are being discussed on the web page?
The major health issues being discussed are obesity, substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, and mental problems. Obesity is one of the major health problems people are suffering from nowadays. Being overweight increases one’s chances of developing stress, coronary heart disease, gallbladder disease, stroke, depression, breast, colon or prostate cancer, sleeping disorder, respiratory problems and osteoarthritis (Owen, 2005). Thus, it is important for everyone to shed extra pounds, to eat healthy foods and to live an active life. Substance abuse means excessive consumption of alcohol and increased dependence on drugs. Here in the United States, a large number of young people and seniors are suffering from this complication. HIV/AIDS is one of the most serious health issues. Between 10 to 20 percent of the United States population is suffering from HIV/AIDS, most of which are youngsters aging from 24 to 34. The disease mainly spreads due to unhygienic sex and blood transfusion. Early signs and symptoms of HIV/AIDS are sudden weight loss, rashes on the skin, swollen lymph nodes, fatigue, and dementia. A number of prevention programs have been initiated across the country in order to help people understand the seriousness of the disease. Mental problems are of varying types. For instance, dementia is a group of symptoms associated with poor memory or thinking capabilities; it can reduce an individual’s ability to perform his day-to-day tasks. The most common form of dementia is Alzheimer's disease, which causes the loss of social and intellectual skills. A patient with Alzheimer’s disease is unable to memorize different things as his brain cells degenerate and die with time, leading to serious consequences.
