Describe a situation in which there was a conflict between nurses and physicians or nurses and administration (use an advanced nursing practice situation. Write a paper on how application of the Twelve Skills Summary to the situation might have altered the outcome.
Conflict between nurses and physicians
One of the instances where there have been conflicts between the nurse and physician is when there are no agreements on role boundaries and the opinion of nurses is at times ignored. In this case the physician felt that his opinion was more valuable sometimes sought to handle different patients and ignoring the input of health care team members. When the nurses raised concerns they were being ignored, this created tension as the physician indicated that he had a bigger role to play in health interventions with nursing merely getting directions from him. While not necessarily disagreeing with the statement, the nurses acknowledged the importance of health care teams and learning from each other to promote health. There was tension and suspicion among different health practitioners with some reluctant to voice their concern or communicate openly. Encouraging collaborative performance improves cohesion, but also depends on whether there is support among those holding more power (Hildreth & Anderson, 2016). When one or some of the health practitioners try to impose their views and values on others as was the case, this may worsen relations among health team members.
Twelve Skills Summary and solving the conflict
One of the ways the issue could have been solved is addressing their concerns among the health team members as this is preferable than working as opponents in a win-win approach. After this the members would have looked at opportunities presented to address similar issues that cause tension among health team members it would be prudent to look at different points of view in the situation (Almost e al., 2016). The physician had more experience, but he could have been made to appreciate more the need for collaboration and cooperation to improve the quality of care services. Managing conflict takes time and training ought to be prioritized so that health practitioners have better conflict management skills and this will result in positive changes.
