Causes of Maternal Death for the Ages of Twenty to Thirty
Introduction
The quantitative articles by Ferreira (2019) on "Maternal Characteristics and risk factors from Pre-eclampsia in pregnant women", Patnaik (2019) on "Maternal and perinatal outcome in severe pre-eclampsia", and Priyanka (2020) on "Maternal and perinatal outcome in severe pre-eclampsia and eclampsia", present recent studies on Pre-eclampsia in women. Pre-eclampsia is a pregnancy complication brought about by high blood pressure which begins after twenty weeks of pregnancy in a woman with normal blood pressure. Pre-eclampsia can result in severe and even threatening complications for the mother and baby. Symptoms associated with this disorder include swelling, sudden weight gain, headaches, changes in vision, mental confusion, shortness of breath, racing pulse, and abdominal and lower back pain. This paper aims to investigate the causes of maternal death for the ages of twenty to thirty by reviewing and analyzing three recent peer-reviewed studies on pre-eclampsia and how the findings add knowledge to pre-eclampsia and promote health concepts. Although pre-eclampsia is a manageable condition, the articles indicate that it is a deadly condition if not well cared for.
Target Population
Patnaik's (2019) target population comprised of one hundred and twenty women suffering from severe eclampsia who have previously suffered from hypertension, diabetes, anemia, and epilepsy but with the exclusion of previous pregnancy terms. These targeted populations were studied according to existing conditions, previous assessments, and examinations. Ferreira's (2019) target population was ninety-four pregnant women, whose information was obtained using a from that recorded their previous medical records. Magnesium sulfate was chosen as the most appropriate and effective medication to control seizures. Priyanka's (2020) study focuses on one hundred and forty women with severe pre-eclampsia using the inclusion and exclusion method, where participants were admitted to the obstetric emergency unit for one year. Blood pressure was regulated by using both oral nifedipine and labetalol. These three scholars investigated populations of women from both low-income settings and high-income settings.
Analysis and Findings
Patnaik’s (2019) study found that out of the one hundred and twenty cases of severe pre-eclampsia, the majority, 70%, were between twenty to thirty years of age and 79.16% were those in their first pregnancies. Those diagnosed with Pedal Edema constituted 80.8% which was the most prevalent, followed by cerebral pain at 40.8% from the most recent study. 56.6% of women suffering from severe pre-eclampsia were conveyed vaginally, and around 43.5% were conveyed by the cesarean section procedure, with the majority being the cause of failed labor induction. Maternal complications like Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH) were found to be in the 5.8 percentile, with eclampsia being in the 9.1 percentile, intense renal failure being in the 0.83 percentile, and the Hemolysis, Elevated Liver enzymes, and Low Platelets (HELLP) condition also being in the 0.83 percentile, and aspiratory Edema in 1.66%. In comparison, maternal deaths were recorded in the 1.66 percentile in p...
