How Do Diversity Issues Among Healthcare Workers Impact Patient Care?
Introduction
Diversity is a spice to life and all humans ought to appreciate and respect the role it plays in our lives. Unfortunately, diversity has created differences and divided the human race. Matteliano and Street (2015) assert that the American population has few practicing physicians from the minority population. Critical to the discussion is the fact that Matteliano and Street (2015) posit that Hispanics, African Americans, and Native Americans make up twenty-six percent of the American population yet only six percent of the population is working in the healthcare industry. Thus, there is the underlying importance of overcoming diversity to provide quality and effective treatment.
Clinical question
The clinical question emanates from our group question on dealing with diversity issues among staff; how will diversity issues among healthcare workers impact patient care? Diverse cultural workforce gives the workforce a vast experience in healthcare. The healthcare givers get to interact and provide services to a culturally diverse workforce that enables them to gain more knowledge and skill on assorted healthcare issues. Co-workers can bring unique practices, perceptions, and experiences to the rest of the group. The group and the workforce in its entirety pick up and learn from their individual strengths and weaknesses
Searching strategies
The research strategies I used in this article is through researching on the clinical question for our group: How do diversity issues among healthcare workers impact patient care? After going through many different publications, I checked for the credibility of the sources I filtered the results. I sorted the results using the criteria of when the articles were written, their authors and read through several articles before deciding which one would support my topic.

Problem
It is quite important that there be consideration of healthcare practitioners from the marginalized or presumed ‘small’ communities. It is a huge problem in the American healthcare system since there seems to be very few practicing medical personnel from such minority groups (Matteliano & Street, 2015). Patients, therefore suffer unnecessarily over issues that could be addressed by having a more culturally diverse medical practitioners.
